The Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair is Thailand's flagship gem and jewellery trade show, held twice a year and organised under the country's Ministry of Commerce. The 74th edition runs 8–12 September 2026 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center.
It is a coloured-stone buyer's event first — loose goods, matched parcels and rough from Thai and international dealers, in the city the wholesale trade already lives in. What follows is how to work it, and what to do about the stones you will not find there.

For scale, the previous edition in February 2026 drew 40,721 visitors from 118 countries — 61 per cent of them international — across 1,222 exhibiting companies and 2,794 booths, with reported trade value of 4.75 billion baht. Its top five visiting nations were India, Myanmar, China, Japan and Sri Lanka, which is a fair map of where coloured stone buying actually happens. Figures are the Gem and Jewelry Institute of Thailand's, for the February edition; the September numbers are not published yet.
How to work the floor
Six habits that decide your week.
- 01Arrive with a brief, not a browseSpecies, sizes, colour targets, treatment tolerance, budget. The floor rewards a buyer who can say precisely what they need, and it punishes one who is still deciding.
- 02Walk the loose-stone halls firstDealer goods move. The stone you hesitate over on Tuesday is gone by Thursday. Note booth numbers as you go — you will not remember them.
- 03Compare in consistent lightCarry your master stone or colour reference. Booth lighting is built to flatter; judge colour out near the aisle where the light is more neutral, and re-check anything serious in daylight.
- 04Ask for treatment disclosure in writingOn the memo or the invoice, at the booth. This is ordinary practice for legitimate exhibitors, and a fair-floor purchase deserves the same discipline as any other.
- 05Use the labs for anything significantBangkok's trade is served by AIGS, GIA, GRS and Lotus Gemology. A report turnaround can fit inside a fair week if you start it early enough.
- 06Keep a list of what you could not findEvery stone you wanted and did not see, written down in the specification you wanted it in. That list is usually worth more than what you carried home.
After the fair

Every buyer leaves a fair with gaps — the pair that almost matched, the calibrated parcel nobody had complete, the colour window no booth quite hit.
Those stones are usually not missing from Bangkok. They are missing from the fair floor, sitting unlisted with dealers a few kilometres away in the permanent trade. That is the search we run: send the list over WhatsApp, a GIA Graduate Gemologist works it through the trade after the hall closes, and when a stone is confirmed you are introduced directly to the dealer at their own price — no markup, no commission.

- What should a first-time buyer bring?
- A written brief, a loupe, a reference for any colour you have to match, comfortable shoes, and the business documentation you need to register. Above all bring specificity — the buyers who do well are the ones asking for exact things.
- What if I cannot find a stone at the fair?
- Keep the list, with specifications. The fair floor is a fraction of the city's inventory, and most Bangkok dealer stock is never exhibited or listed anywhere. A gemologist on the ground can work that list through the trade after the fair closes.
